Sooners Inch Closer to Championship

Norman, Okla. -

The Oklahoma Sooners took a big step towards their fifth national championship in the last six years by defeating the Texas Longhorns 8-3 in Game 1 of the Women's College World Series finals Tuesday night.

Grace Lyons led the way for the Sooners, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Kinzie Hansen added a two-run home run in the third inning, and Tiare Jennings drove in two runs with a double in the fifth.

Texas starter Hailey Dolcini took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits in 4 1/3 innings. Oklahoma starter Hope Trautwein went the distance, allowing three runs on six hits.

The Sooners will now have a chance to clinch the championship in Game 2 on Wednesday night. Texas will need to win both games to force a Game 3.

Conclusion

Oklahoma's victory was a statement to the rest of the country that they are still the team to beat. The Sooners have now won 15 straight games in the WCWS and are looking to add to their legacy as one of the most dominant programs in college softball history.
