Florida Takes Game 1 of Stanley Cup Final with a Shutout
Unlikely Hero Helps Panthers to 2-0 Lead
The Florida Panthers have taken an early lead in the Stanley Cup Final, shutting out the Edmonton Oilers 1-0 in Game 1 at Amerant Bank Arena.
The Panthers' offense was led by Evan Rodrigues, who scored the game's only goal in the third period. Rodrigues also added an assist on Carter Verhaeghe's empty-net goal.
Sergei Bobrovsky was outstanding in goal for the Panthers, stopping all 33 shots he faced. It was Bobrovsky's fifth career playoff shutout.
The Oilers had a few good chances to score, but they couldn't beat Bobrovsky. Connor McDavid had a breakaway in the first period, but Bobrovsky made a sprawling save to keep the game scoreless.
The Panthers now have a 2-0 lead in the series. Game 3 will be played in Edmonton on Monday night.
