Introduction
The Italian Parliament is the supreme legislative body of the Italian Republic. It consists of two houses: the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate of the Republic. The Chamber of Deputies is the lower house of the Parliament and is composed of 630 members, who are elected by direct popular vote for a five-year term.
Functions
The Chamber of Deputies has a number of important functions, including:
- Passing laws
- Approving the government's budget
- Declaring war and peace
- Impeaching the President of the Republic
- Granting pardons
The Chamber of Deputies is also responsible for electing the President of the Republic and the Prime Minister.
